Fluff Bingo FAQ

Do you have any questions about the community or how to play this bingo challenge? Please find some frequently asked questions below. If you don't see the answer to your question, drop a line and your admin [personal profile] all_choseny will be happy to answer your questions.

1. How does the sign up and posting working?
The Fluff Bingo Challenge is a quarterly writing challenge that runs once per quarter. Sign up begins and ends on specific dates. Posting Dates for bingo will be announced by your mod and amnesty days for those who missed the cut off dates for posting complete bingo cards.
Ex: Sign ups from April XX, 2019 -April XX, 2019
Posting days from May XX, 2019- May XX, 2019
Amnesty Days from June XX, 2019- June XX, 2019

2. How do I win Fluff Bingo?
You can win Fluff Bingo several different ways:
Filling a line horizontally, vertically, and diagonally.
You can also further challenge yourself and blackout your card for a “Bingo Blackout”

3. What is a Bingo Black out?
A bingo blackout is when you fill every square on your card. This is totally optional and you do not have to do this to win Bingo.

4. What if I miss the posting days for Bingo?
If you miss the posting days for the bingo challenge, you can always post what you have completed on the amnesty days. Amnesty days are free for all days where you can post fics you've written for your bingo card even if it's not completed.

5. How many cards am I allowed to request at once?
You are allowed to request one bingo card at a time. If you’d like to do an additional Bingo card for the same round of bingo, you must black out your bingo card.

6. Is there a minimum word count?
Yes! Each fic must have a minimum of 500 words. There is no maximum word count.

7. What happens when I get a bingo?
You win the game! Once you complete your bingo card (by getting a vertical, horizontal, diagonal or blackout) post your complete bingo fics in ONE post with the links to each fic with the appropriate tags. You will also go to the completed bingo post HERE to let the mod know you have completed your bingo card.

8. Do I win anything?
Yes! You win a banner that you can showcase on your profile page or journal letting everyone know you completed bingo.

9. What kind of fic is accepted?
Cannon characters from any fandoms, crossover fics, original fics. However, no fiction that includes real people. Example: No fics that have Penn Bagley as himself in a fiction. Fictionalized historical figures are accepted. Example: Henry VIII from the tv show The Tudors.

10. How are Bingo Cards distributed?
When you sign up on the SIGN UP POST you will be assigned a bingo card at random. Your comment will be screened and the mod will reply back to you with the code for your bingo card so you can copy and past it on your journal or store it where you see fit.

11. Do I need a Dreamwidth account to play?
Yes, this is a Dreamwidth only community. Depending on its success the game may be expanded to other platforms.

12. This writing challenge is for fluff… what are acceptable ratings?
Although it’s fluff, fluff can be sexy, too. All ratings from G to NC-17 are accepted.

13. Can I use a fic that I have written for a previous challenge?
All fic for bingo must be written for this challenge.

14. Can I cross post on other communities?
Sure!

15. Can I change my Bingo line at any time?
You can, but you will only get credit for one bingo line. So, if you originally went for a horizontal bingo and want to go diagonal you can switch it up. Any fic you wrote for the other line may not count, but you can post those on the amnesty day if you like.

16. Can I choose any prompt I want for the 'Free Space' square, or should it be a prompt from my card?

The Free Space is like a writer's choice spot. You can use any prompt you like. It does not have to come from the card. You can use other prompts from other communities or make up a prompt of your own.

17. Can I combine prompt challenge words/phrases from other prompt communities?
Yes! I run the affiliate group to this community [community profile] 100prompts. Additionally, there a lot of other great communities that you can choose from. Some people find that combining prompts is helpful when completing bingo.

18. Are the Bingo cards only for romantic fic?
The idea of this community is to cater to romantic themes. However, we are all creative and I am sure that you can use these prompts to write non-romantic fluff. Remember the words serve as a starting point. How you interpret these prompts is entirely up to you.

19. How long does the game last?
As of quarter 2, all rounds going forward will allow you 11-13 weeks to write at least five fics.

Can bingo prompts be combined with prompts from other communities/challenges?

That's fine, I just have a prompt table I'm working on, and I write for several weekly challenges so I have a better chance of getting a bingo if I can combine prompts.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

BTW, really happy to see a fluffy bingo, there hasn't been one since cottoncandy_bingo gave up the ghost.

Hi! I can't find the list of prompts from which the card will be made anywhere, could you point me in the right direction, please?

Can I write fics for multiple fandoms when filling out my card or is the idea to stick to one?

I've got two questions.

1. Does the story the prompt inspires have to be strictly romantic, or can it be just a general cute/humorous story?

2. This actually ties in with a previous user's question: If I have some song that I really like that, for lack of a better phrase, hits me right in the feels, can that be my Free Space prompt?

English is not my native language. Can I write fics in Spanish (my native language) using the prompts as inspiration? Will it still count as a bingo if I complete a row?

I've read all of the questions that were asked here and I think I still need a little bit of clarification.

For each square of our chosen Bingo line is it a separate fic that is 500 words each or one 500 word fic that incorporates all the words?

Yes that does. Thank you.

Hey! I love the idea of a fluff bingo. Just one question. You say all fics should be posted to one post, which post should we post it to?

Do you have an AO3 collection we should add fics to? I do most of my posting there, and I'm curious if there was a collection I should be adding the stories to as I write them.

Also, I have a question about getting a new card. In the sticked Welcome post, you say you can request a new card once you have completed at least one bingo. In the FAQs here, though, you say you have to blackout your card. Which is the accurate one?

Can I combine more than one prompt into a fic (just 2 or 3) if that fic is then the equivalent of 500 words per prompt? (e.g., 2 prompts = 1k minimum, 3 prompts = 1.5k minimum) Or does it need to stay one prompt per fic?

Chances are pretty high that I'm going to try for a blackout, so thank you! :-D

I'm something of a bingo veteran (30 cards in the last 9 years in about a dozen different comms) and one of the features of almost every Bingo comm I've participated on is the "blackout" rule. While the requirement is to use separate and standalone stories for each prompt, if you can combine all 24 prompts + one additional (free space) prompt into a single story, you get a bingo win.

It's not clear from your rules that this would be accepted, but the immediately preceding question and your answer seems to indicate that it's possible to combine prompts into a single story for credit on two blocks.

Can you clarify:

1 - That a story with all 24 prompts + one more fluffy prompt will qualify as a blackout;

2 - That two prompts can be incorporated into a single story and credit for both prompts in a single bingo is permitted.

Thank you!

Hi, if we requested a card for the previous round but didn’t post anything can we still ask for a new card this round? I forgot all about my card last round :’D
